Homeland Streetfood Sample Menu

-Bourekas-

Originally from Turkey bourekas are baked or fried filled pastries like Italy’s calzone, Spain’s
empanada, & India’s samosa, these pastries are self-contained, they make a satisfying meal any time of
the day.

-Shakshuka-

Believed to have a Tunisian origin; in Hebrew, it means “all mixed up”. It is a dish of eggs poached
in a sauce of tomatoes, chilli peppers, onions & often spiced with cumin.

-Falafel-

Deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both. The origin of the falafel is
unknown & controversial. Falafel plays an iconic role in Israeli cuisine & is widely considered to be
the national dish of the country.

-Pita-

The “pocket” in pita bread is created by steam, which puffs up the dough; as the bread cools & flattens,
a pocket is left in the middle. Its history extends far into antiquity, since flatbreads are among the most
ancient breads, requiring no oven or utensils to make. Widely consumed in many Middle Eastern &
Mediterranean cuisines.
